まく【蒔く】

sow 《seed》.

●地に種をまく sow seed in (the) soil; sow the soil with seed; plant seeds

・畑に小麦をまく sow a field with wheat

・まき時 sowing time; seedtime

・秋[春]まき autumn [spring] sowing.

●まかぬ種ははえぬ. A seed that is not sown does not sprout. | Nothing comes of [from] nothing. 【諺】 | No pains, no gains. 【諺】 | One must sow before one can reap.

・自分でまいた種は自分で刈り取れ. Reap what you have sown.
